Poleis Polis is a term used in ancient Greece to refer to the city-state, which was the fundamental political unit of the Greek world. Additionally, the Greek people valued their independence and autonomy, which contributed to the formation of the polis as a self-governing community. The polis also provided a sense of identity and belonging for its citizens, fostering a strong sense of civic pride and participation in political life. **
